The Edge... There is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over. The others- the living- are those who pushed their luck as far as ... more »

Things that are are also not.
A very beautiful sentence.
Great writing Pete. Loved it.
first paragraph: "show our 'tendency to want'" / "Our 'need' to understand" "tendency to want" and "need" are very different, are they not?
I’m wondering why you didn’t use religion vs science as another example of duality.
I watched a program about parallel universes (duality!) and quantum mechanics last night. It was interesting but an incomprehensible idea to me even though it was explained basically. (Then again, it is also widely disputed in the scientific community.) Gave me lots of questions though. If energy can neither be created nor destroyed, would not parallel universes create, but not destroy, energy? And regarding energy, what about the H-Bomb? You mention the atom being indivisible – though that is not true. There’s a lot of extra information on-line pertaining to this documentary so IF I read it I may have more to add. :)
Re time (as Penitent mentioned): could it though be broken down into duality – awake vs asleep?
This is very strange - I sense that I have a lot more to say, but I can't (yet) formulate that into actual thoughts. Much of what you are discussing is new to me so sorry if I've gone off topic.
agree/disagree - duality! :)
Oh that Schrodinger's Cat was talked about in that show I watched about Hugh Everett / parallel universes. I should watch it again because I've forgotten everything. If you're interested, here's info on it:
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/manyworlds/
and you can watch the documentary here (part I of II):

on my way to google Schrodinger... :-)
Certainly there is even a scientific arguement for what we believe actually being the truth - perception is key. This is why Schrodinger was so mean to his cat.
I agree in general, but in other cases it's easier said than done if we depend on science to tell us otherwise. And then there's those who believe in God vs. atheists.... :-)
absolutely perception is reality to a large extent. which is why we should focus on changing our perceptions more often than trying to change the things around us :)
"We must learn to perceive from eternity and all our contradictions will be exposed for what they are, problems of perception."
And Pete perfectly defines my view of the universe. Good work.
"I am and I think.", I'd say, you think you are, and you think you think. Its impossible to know.
Duality is a principle that I think is quite correct for all things. While the lines between good and bad blur, there is a duality between that blurring and another.
Such as mixing red and yellow to make green. Green avoids the original duality, whilst itself being in a duality with purple.
Only think that avoids dualities so far is time. Personally, I believe time to exist only when recorded, so before time is before anything existed to name it.
Anyway.

I often think about things like this, then I soon forget about it cos i'd probably go mental or something! It's strange, whenever I think of wave-particle duality and the uncertainty principle, I always get the feeling that the universe actually knows that we are trying to observe it! Also I find it quite humbling to think that all that our perceived reality is, is just one big vibration of energy (liberated or not).
I think...therefore I am...I am...therefore I think...which is it? If A is B...the B must be A....I remember from my philosphy classes at good ole Loyola U. (yes, I was educated by the Jesuits) this discussion, and being deficient in math and never understanding Desargues' therom I was never able to afix a notion of this discourse. I think it involves projective geometry, which is way, way above my head...Pete, you are a heavy dude. My cap is off to ya, mate. I could always handle the logic of philosophy, but the math.....
Matter that has been given it's wings. What a profound statement to me. Thank you for sharing these ideas.
it seems to me that you're a very good writer ;)
i agree with juniper and i would love to hear more. if you want to check out an amazing documentary about perception, particles and waves i suggest you watch esoteric agenda on youtube.....the first half deals with politics and the root of all religions but the last half is about are emotions being only derived from fear and love , which they to have there own wave lengths and so so so much more. it really is a must see...so if your interested check it out and as for the article i can't wait to hear more
Well... duality... a subject close to my heart, so you can count on me being around for any further discussions on the topic. As a Westerner I have been suckered into dualistic thinking... right or wrong... purpose or meaninglessness... good or bad... particle or wave... I'm with you 100% on the "problem of perception" bit of it all. Humanity and locality... I could really go on but I've not got the time right now. You say "Wherefore the therefore?" and I find myself right behind you... I'm fond of "I empathize therefore I am" as opposed to Descartes' most famous line ;) I exist through others... it's rather hard to put to words, but maybe you catch my drift... maybe. Excellent post!
I want to come back to this article over time and add to it...including adding images and video. in the meantime please chip in with your thoughts and feedback so we can discuss it :)
