A Wednesday afternoon, mid-February 2004. I’m standing in a field; next to a goal post if I’m to be specific, dressed in cringe-worthy private-school sports attire. You know the type: loose-fitting long sleeved black rugby top with a stiff white collar, overlapping rigid shorts of the same colour and minimal material which struggles to cover my knobbly knees. Below this, yellow and black striped football socks which, as well as identifying you with a “house”, also ironically label you as a delinquent sitting on a park bench with a two litre bottle of cider and a cheap cigarette. We were desperate at times and we're a much better team than we showed today,” explained a rather relieved Coleman. "Norwich should've got more from the game but our players had a 'never say die' attitude despite making some elementary mistakes which we never normally do."The Canaries, kitted in their familiar yellow colors, started the brightest and should have taken the lead with seven minutes played. A ball across the face of goal caused panic in the Coventry defence, almost reaching winger Lee Croft who was a full stretch but was unable to get the touch needed.Glenn Roeder, like his opposite Chris Coleman, has bought in many… read more
