- You are the miracle
*** Disclaimer*** Though I don't consider this a "poem", I didn't know where else to file it. It probably won't make a whole lot of sense to most people but it was only supposed to make sense to me so that doesn't matter. :-)
If we were made of dirt
Did God destine us for failure?
We are such fragile stuff
Life breathed in
Only to breathe back out
Given tar-stained hearts built to burn
We dare to call this mercy
Yet, for all that, there is you.
The miracle of what dirt can be
You are the unsung song of glory
That never had the chance
Locked away a place so dark you never noticed
The crown of all creation placed upon your head
I did
As for me, I'm nothing special
Filth with a divine spark
Same as everybody else
Nothing special, but offering out my hand
And if you take it we'll walk these streets together
Find some safe, secret place to hide
While they curse the heavens down
Then when Armageddon comes
With it's mighty, end-times roar
We'll face it with a whisper ...

Poetry was the right place to put it and I think it makes more sense to more people than you might imagine. It's a beautiful piece, I'm glad you posted it! I hope to see more like this sometime!

Yeah, the old balancing act between spiritual and dust - we have to be more than slime and earth. Well written.

goddam MD!...I wished I had penned these words for my loved one...it makes a whole lot of sense to me and is a superb piece of writing...the ending is both defiant and tender at the same time...nice work..
